This piece is a study of one of the most eye-catching Australian native bees. The glorious female Metallic Green Carpenter Bee has most unmistakable iridescent dark blue and green colours across their body. Their length goes up to17 mm long and they make a loud buzz as they fly. Another peculiarity of this species is that they cut nest burrows in the flower spikes, grass trees and other soft timbers.
