This piece is a study of one of the most fascinating Australian native bees. They have the most distinctive bright yellow markings on the face and across the shoulders and a dark metallic blue abdomen.  Another peculiarity of this species is the territorial behaviour of males in Banksia flowers.

It would be a hard task for males to find Banksia bee females, mainly because they nest such diverse locations. However, females visit Banksia flowers to gather pollen and nectar and that is where they can both meet for mating.
