The Andean bear, also known as the spectacled bear, is a South American bear species native to the Andes Mountains. It is the only bear species native to South America and is the largest land carnivore in that part of the world.

Andean bears are omnivorous, and their diet consists mainly of plants, such as fruits, leaves, and shoots. They will also eat small mammals, insects, and carrion. Andean bears are solitary animals and are most active at night. They spend most of their time foraging for food and are excellent climbers.

Andean bears are classified as vulnerable by the IUCN Red List. Their main threats are habitat loss, hunting, and conflict with humans.
